Litter-Robot 3: Deep cleaning guide

Cleaning Litter-Robot 3 is painless. Regularly wipe it down with a damp paper towel or cleaner wipes every couple of days to keep your unit looking new and clean.

Deep cleaning however, is a more a thorough process. Follow our Litter-Robot deep cleaning instructions below.

Cleaning materials

  • Whisker Cleaner Spray or Wipes are recommended
  • Mild detergents and common household cleaners are generally safe to use but you should ensure they are pet-safe as well.
  • Cleaning brush, sponge, or cloth.
  • Vacuum
Do not use bleach on the units, as this can cause the plastic to degrade.

Preparing Litter-Robot 3 for cleaning

The Litter-Robot 3 globe should be fully cleaned at least every 3 months. The base can be wiped down with cleaner wipes or a damp cloth as needed.

  1. Remove excess dry litter by pressing the Empty button on the control panel. The globe will rotate, dumping the remaining litter into the waste drawer.
  2. Press any button to return the globe to the home position.
  3. Remove and empty the waste drawer by removing the waste drawer liner or dumping the drawer's contents in the trash.
  4. If you use the Whisker app, press Reset Gauge in the Controls section of the app when you empty the waste drawer to reset the waste drawer level in the app.
  5. Remove the carbon filter from the waste drawer.
  6. Press the power button to turn the unit off, then unplug the unit.
Turn off the unit and unplug the unit prior to any deep cleaning.
  7. Remove the bonnet by pressing and releasing the latches on the both sides of the unit. Lift while rotating it backward.

Cleaning Litter-Robot 3

Exterior, waste drawer, and globe

  1. Use a brush or vacuum to remove excess dry litter from the globe, base, and waste drawer.
  2. Clean the step mat by flexing it upside down to remove litter granules. Scrub with a brush to remove stuck-on litter and rinse with water.
  3. Clean the waste drawer and globe. There are no electronics in the globe or waste drawer, so you can soak these in a tub or hose them down. This will help prevent litter streaking. We recommend using a soft toilet brush to easily access the inside of the globe. Once you're finished cleaning the globe, be sure that it is completely dry before adding litter.
  4. Replace the Litter-Robot 3 Carbon Filter in the waste drawer.
  5. Replace the liner. Ensure the waste drawer liner is properly installed in the drawer, tucked into all four tabs. If the bag is sticking up over the edge of the drawer, it will interfere with the DFI sensors that are located just above the drawer.

Base and bonnet

Do not submerge the base or bonnet in water.

Do not spray any liquids directly onto the base or bonnet to avoid damaging the electronics

Bonnet

  1. If you find excess build-up of litter, you can vacuum it up prior to wiping it down to avoid litter streaking.
  2. Remove all litter granules and dust from the unit by wiping it down with a cloth dampened with disinfectant or Litter-Robot's recommended pet-safe cleaner wipes. Be sure to avoid any of the electronics or metal pieces.
  3. Check the Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) sensors. These are located inside the waste opening on the base of the unit.  If you see any residue on the clear plastic, wipe it off and make sure that the lenses are clean. Debris may cause the DFI to indicate a full drawer regardless of the waste in the drawer.

Reassembling Litter-Robot 3

Let it dry and reassemble Litter-Robot 3. If it is not dry, the litter will clump prematurely and may get clogged in the ports or litter pocket.
