Getting your cat acclimated to Litter-Robot is very easy. The trick is to ease your cat into transitioning to Litter-Robot. You can avoid startling your cat by leaving Litter-Robot switched off until you notice your cat has used it. We recommend that you place Litter-Robot in the same location as the old litter box. You can leave the old litter box near Litter-Robot for a short time. Take a cup of litter from the old litter box and add it to the clean litter in Litter-Robot. Is Litter-Robot 4 safe for my cat?
Yes, Litter-Robot was designed with your cat’s safety in mind. If your cat tries to enter the globe while it is rotating, Litter-Robot will stop immediately. Litter-Robot 4 features enhanced safety technology known as the SafeCat System with OmniSense® Detection that uses lasers to continuously analyze four safety zones, weight sensors, and anti-pinch software for enhanced cat detection.

Will Litter-Robot 4 eliminate litter box odors?
Litter-Robot 4 features an optional OdorTrap® System designed to neutralize litter box odors. This system uses the combination of a sealed waste drawer and carbon filter to reduce odor. You can opt to replace the carbon filter with OdorTrap® Packs to eliminate litter box odors through natural chemistry. Most users suggest that Litter-Robot drastically reduces and or even eliminates litter box odors.
Can kittens use Litter-Robot 4?
Yes. Litter-Robot 4 uses laser and weight sensor technology to detect when your cat enters and exits the globe, which triggers the countdown timer and cleaning cycle. The SmartScale® will not recognize kittens that weigh less than 3 lbs. Therefore, kittens that weigh less than 3 lbs can use Litter-Robot 4, but not in automatic mode. Until they weigh enough, we recommend using your Litter-Robot in "semi-automatic" mode to keep your kitten safe and relieve you from litter box scooping. For "semi-automatic" mode, leave Litter-Robot powered off or unplugged. When you see your kitten has used it, wait about 7 minutes for the waste to clump, then power it on. Litter-Robot will automatically perform a clean cycle. Afterward, power it off again. Continue this supervised, semi-automatic mode until your kittens have gained sufficient weight to activate the SmartScale®.
Does Litter-Robot 4 have a weight limit?
No, Litter-Robot 4 does not have a weight limit. With entryway dimensions of 15.75"H x 15.75"W and interior globe dimensions of 15"-17"H (depending on litter level) x 19"W x 18"D, almost any domestic cat can fit comfortably inside the globe.
Does Litter-Robot 4 require special litter?
No, Litter-Robot 4 does not require special litter. Litter-Robot works well with almost any clumping or scoopable litter. However, translucent or white-colored litter (most often seen in crystal litter) may impact the litter level and Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) accuracy in Litter-Robot 4. Litter-Robot is not compatible with litters that are strictly absorbent, non-clumping, loose-clumping, newspaper-based, or wood-based pellets. We suggest all-natural GreatLitter® for Litter-Robot.

What occurs if I buy a color bezel and need a future replacement, warranty, or just want another robot?
All color options are covered under warranty. However, please note that colors may be phased out over time. If you require support for a color bezel unit that is no longer carried, you'll have the option to choose from our current available color offerings.
Can I use the app with both iOS and Android?
The Whisker app is compatible with Apple mobile devices with iOS 13.0 or greater and Android devices 8.0 or greater. Both the iOS app and the Android app are available to download.
Can I connect the app to multiple Litter-Robots?
Yes. You can onboard multiple WiFi-enabled Litter-Robots to the same app. If others in your household want to use the app, they can simply download the app to their device and log in with the same account.
Will Litter-Robot 4 connect to my WiFi network?
Litter-Robot 4 requires a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal and IPv4 or IPv6 addressing (5 GHz band not supported). To connect to a shared network (apartment complexes, college dorms, etc.) provide your unit’s MAC address shown on the QR code sticker to the shared network administrator.

Can Litter-Robot 4 be used on carpet or uneven surfaces?
Yes. However, SmartScale® technology (to record cat weight) is most accurate on a firm, level surface, not carpeting. If you plan to use Litter-Robot 4 on carpet or uneven flooring, please purchase our Carpet Tray accessory. This will sit between the unit and the floor and improve the accuracy of SmartScale® weight readings when on carpet or uneven surfaces.
How do I update my firmware?
The Litter-Robot 4 is able to receive over-the-air firmware updates as Whisker releases new functionality and enhancements. You'll need to update your firmware manually within the Whisker App. You can visit here for detailed steps.
Why does my Litter-Robot 4 firmware automatically update, and can I opt-out?
To ensure that Litter-Robot 4 customers always enjoy the latest features and improvements, we will now automatically update the firmware on your robots as soon as a new release becomes available. If you do not wish to receive these updates, you can choose to opt-out using the Whisker App with the following steps:- Tap Robots in the bottom navigation bar
- Select your Litter-Robot 4
- Tap the settings icon in the top right corner
- Tap ‘Firmware Updates’
- Turn off the toggle for ‘Automatic Updates’

How is Scoops Saved calculated?
For each cycle, the tracker increments the Scoops Saved count by one, estimating the total number of scoops you’ve avoided. The count may vary with the occasional cycle that does not scoop litter or cycles that clean up multiple cat bathroom visits, but on average, each cycle represents one scoop saved!
My Scoops Saved number doesn’t look right; what can I do?
If your scoops saved doesn’t look right you can reset it back to zero by navigating to your robot settings screen and clicking the option to reset your scoops saved. Please note resetting your scoops saved cannot be reversed!
If I already have an account on litter-robot.com, do I have to log in again when using the app to make purchases?
We offer single sign-on, which means you will be automatically signed into your litter-robot.com account when using the app. Both accounts will synchronize automatically. That being said, if you set up your app account and litter-robot.com account using different email addresses, this single sign-on will not work.
How do I access my orders and subscriptions from litter-robot.com in the App?
You can access your orders and subscriptions from the App’s bottom navigation bar in the new “Account’’ tab.
Can I pause my active subscriptions in the app?
Yes, you can pause any of your active subscriptions for up to a year. To do this, tap on the “Account” tab in the bottom navigation bar, then “Subscription Management” and then “Edit Subscription”.
How can I stay informed about my Litter-Robot's status and usage?
The Whisker app sends helpful notifications regarding the status of your Litter-Robot 4. These messages relate to robot usage, robot errors, and software updates. We recommend keeping these messages turned on, as they provide information about:
- Robot usage: Drawer full, litter low, clean cycle complete, clean cycle interrupted, cat detected, and more.
- Robot errors: Critical alerts for hardware failures or operational issues, including motor fault, cat sensor fault, pinch detect fault, over torque fault, position fault, bonnet removed, dirty laser, and more.
- Software updates: Notice of when your robot’s firmware has been updated with a link to the release notes to learn what’s new.
Can I opt out of marketing push notifications in the app?
We recommend staying opted in to marketing notifications to be informed about the new products, accessories, and promotions that may interest you and your fur family. If you don’t wish to receive these updates, you can opt out within the Whisker app:

How does the LitterHopper work?
The Litter-Robot 4 LitterHopper is designed to automatically maintain the optimal Litter-Robot 4 litter level within the globe. The optimal litter bed level inside Litter-Robot 4 is at or just below the MAX fill line inside the globe. Litter-Robot 4 uses OmniSense® Detection to measure the height of the litter bed level at the end of each clean cycle. If the sensors determine that the litter bed level is below optimal, then the LitterHopper will dispense litter into the globe at the start of the NEXT clean cycle. Note: You must update your Litter-Robot 4 to the latest firmware version through the Whisker app before installing the LitterHopper. If you do not currently use the Whisker app, please download the app and update your firmware.
Can I choose a LitterHopper color that’s different from the color I selected for Litter-Robot 4?
No, the LitterHopper will match your selected Litter-Robot 4 color (black or white).

What type of cat litter can I use with the LitterHopper?
We recommend using clay-clumping cat litter with Litter-Robot 4, although litter beads and crystals that are small enough to pass through the screen will also work. However, translucent or white-colored litter (most often seen in crystal litter) may impact the litter level and Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) accuracy.
How much cat litter does the LitterHopper hold and dispense?
The LitterHopper holds approximately 13 cups of cat litter. It dispenses roughly half a cup of litter at a time, for a total of approximately 25 dispenses. (Note: The LitterHopper does not dispense litter during every cleaning cycle, only when litter levels drop below optimal.)
How do I know my LitterHopper™ is calibrated to optimal litter levels?
When you initially enable the LitterHopper, ensure the litter level inside the globe is optimal: just below the MAX fill line. Whatever the litter level is when you enable the LitterHopper will automatically be set as the optimal litter level. This means your LitterHopper will not dispense until the litter reaches below that level.

Will the Whisker app tell me when the LitterHopper is empty?
Yes, the Whisker app will notify you when your LitterHopper is likely empty. The app closely monitors your litter bed level. If it detects a decreasing litter bed level trend over several cleaning cycles, the app will notify you that litter levels are getting low, indicating that the LitterHopper is likely empty. Please note: We are continuing to improve upon this feature; in some cases, the feature may not work as intended.
Is the LitterHopper included in my Litter-Robot 4 WhiskerCare™ Warranty?
The LitterHopper automatically includes a 1-year warranty, regardless of whether your Litter-Robot 4 is still under warranty, and is not eligible for coverage under our 3-year extended warranty.
Is the LitterHopper™ anti-tip guard compatible with the Litter-Robot 4 Carpet Tray?
Yes, they are compatible. The carpet tray includes a support extension for the anti-tip guard.
Are there any special cleaning instructions?
While cleaning your Litter-Robot 4, be careful that the LitterHopper key (the device used to direct litter from the LitterHopper into Litter-Robot 4) doesn’t fall out. Note that the key is designed to fit loosely in the globe, thus allowing the globe to rotate freely around it. We recommend regularly cleaning the LitterHopper dispensing area with a dry cloth or vacuum to avoid buildup of dust, loose litter, or clumps.
Why didn’t the LitterHopper add litter to my globe?
When you initially install the LitterHopper, you’ll need to start with a full bed of litter that is at or just below the MAX fill line. Litter will be added ONLY when needed and only at the start of the NEXT clean cycle. For further troubleshooting, visit our support portal.
What do I do with my original Litter-Robot 4 Bonnet?
Feel free to recycle or throw away your original bonnet. (Be sure to follow local regulations.) Or you can store it in the box your LitterHopper arrived in for safekeeping.

If you purchased the LitterHopper at the same time as your Litter-Robot 4, you will need to return your entire unit for a LitterHopper refund. We will then ship a standard Litter-Robot 4 to you.
