How do I get my cat to use Litter-Robot?
Most cats successfully acclimate to Litter-Robot. Try some of these tips if your cat has difficulty adjusting to Litter-Robot.
Leave Litter-Robot turned off to avoid possibly startling your cat while they’re adjusting to it as their new litter box. Once you notice that your cat has used Litter-Robot, turn it on for a clean cycle. Encourage your cats to be present, so they can observe the motion and become familiar with the sound of Litter-Robot while you’re there to reassure them. Once your cat is using Litter-Robot consistently, you can use it in Automatic Mode (leaving the unit on).
Place Litter-Robot near or next to the old litter box, but don’t throw the old litter box away yet. Add a scoop of the old litter to the new litter in Litter-Robot to provide a familiar scent for your cat. Gradually make the old litter box less desirable by letting waste accumulate. Cats prefer a clean place to go, so this should motivate your cat to try Litter-Robot.
If your cats show no interest, entice them to approach Litter-Robot by using some catnip or treats. Place treats on the step or around Litter-Robot so your cat associates rewards with the new litter box. Sit down with them next to Litter-Robot, giving them attention and showing that Litter-Robot is nothing to worry about. Once your cat has used Litter-Robot, be sure to reward them with treats, play sessions, and cuddles.
There are litters designed to attract cats, as well as litter additives, which you can sprinkle into your normal litter. You can find these by searching online.
Don’t block Litter-Robot or create a place where the cat could feel trapped or cornered.
Since cats are curious and love to go into boxes, try putting a box over Litter-Robot with a hole cut out for the entry and the drawer.
